Joint Reviews and reports

HIW works closely with other regulators and inspectorates in Wales, and also with other inspectorates across the UK.

During the course of our assurance work in Wales, we work closely with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), Estyn and Audit Wales. The Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and Local Government (Wales) Act 2015 supports joint working between the inspection and audit bodies in Wales.

Follow up Statement: Child Protection Rapid Review (Wales)

In October 2022 Welsh Government asked Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) to lead on a multi-agency rapid review of decision making in relation to child protection. Their aim was to determine how well the current structures and processes ensure that children’s names are placed on, and removed from, the child protection register (CPR) only when it is safe to do so.
This statement outlines the actions CIW have taken since publishing the findings in September 2023.

Together with (HMICFRS) His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), and Estyn, we carried out a joint inspection on the multi-agency response to abuse and neglect in Powys.

The review looked at the multi‑agency response to abuse and neglect of children in Wales’ six regional safeguarding board areas between 2019 and 2024.

Our findings of the effectiveness of partnership working and the work of individual agencies in Cardiff.
