We inspect Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) in Wales to check people are receiving good care.
How we inspect
We work with Care Inspectorate Wales to undertake joint inspections of CMHTs.
We look at how services:
- Meet the Quality Standards 2023 and Social Services and Well-being Act (Wales) 2014
- Comply with the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Meet any other relevant professional standards and guidance where applicable
CMHT inspections are announced. The service receives up to 12 weeks’ notice of the inspection.
The inspections are conducted by two HIW inspectors, two clinical peer reviewers (one of whom is the nominated Mental Health Act reviewer) and two Care Inspectorate Wales inspectors.
