Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) is offering an exciting nine-month secondment for an experienced Project Lead to shape the future of maternity and neonatal service assurance in Wales.

We are recruiting

This pivotal role will drive the design and delivery of a brand-new inspection methodology – a ground-up approach informed by national policy, clinical standards, and the experiences of women, parents, and families. What’s involved?

  • Leading the development of an innovative inspection framework for maternity and neonatal services.
  • Collaborating with clinical experts, policy leads, and stakeholders to ensure the methodology is evidence-based and aligned with best practice.
  • Managing the full project lifecycle – from planning and fieldwork design to reporting.

Who are we looking for?

A dynamic professional with:

  • Clinical governance expertise in maternity, neonatal, or related areas
  • Strong understanding of maternity and neonatal care pathways, including risks and complexities
  • Knowledge of Welsh healthcare policy, such as the national Quality Statement for Maternity and Neonatal services
  • Proven ability to engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, policy leads, and internal teams
  • Experience in developing or applying assurance methodologies in healthcare or regulatory settings
  • Excellent observational, assessment, and analytical skills to interpret complex information and create practical inspection tools
