Remembering Ali Jahanfar

We would like to pay tribute to Ali, a much-admired colleague, dedicated dental professional, and Clinical Dental Lead at Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW). Ali’s contributions to dentistry in Wales were both significant and lasting, and his legacy continues to inspire those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Ali qualified as a dentist in Sweden in 1996 and moved to the UK the following year. He brought with him not only clinical expertise but also a deep commitment to patient care and professional development. Working initially as an associate in various valleys-based practices, Ali became a practice owner in 2009 and expanded to a second practice in 2024. His leadership in these roles was marked by compassion, diligence, and a drive to improve outcomes for patients and colleagues alike.

In 2014, Ali joined HIW as a Dental Peer Reviewer, and in 2017, he was appointed Clinical Dental Lead. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in ensuring that dental practices across Wales met the highest standards of care. His work involved conducting inspections, mentoring peers, and contributing to the development of regulatory frameworks that prioritised patient safety and quality improvement.

Ali once described his role as “rewarding,” noting how it allowed him to support his dental colleagues and contribute to the broader mission of HIW. His inspections were thorough, fair, and always grounded in a desire to help practices grow and improve. He was known for his collaborative spirit, his thoughtful feedback, and his unwavering belief in the importance of high-quality dental care for all.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ali will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and integrity. He was a mentor to many, a trusted advisor, and a friend whose presence brought reassurance and encouragement.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ali’s loved ones, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His influence on the dental community in Wales was profound and lasting, and he will be deeply missed.

Thank you, Ali, on behalf of everyone at HIW and the people of Wales, for your dedication, your compassion, and your tireless work. We will miss you and remember you fondly.
