Purpose of post
Reporting to the Head of Mental Health – Clinical Advice to:
- Co-ordinate peer reviewer recruitment and retention
- Shortlisting, sifting and interviewing
- Retention and support in revalidation, Continual Professional Development (CPD) and on- going training opportunities
- Ongoing support to peer reviewers where required.
- Active role in training sessions together with creating training programmes with the Head of Mental Health - Clinical Advice
- Take an active role in policy creation and guidance review
- Attendance at service of concern meetings
- Participation in the inspection programme with key stakeholders, eg – HMI Prisons and His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS)
- Work closely with other branches within HIW to ensure projects/areas of work have clinical support and input where required
- Input into the annual mental health and learning disabilities act report including the monitoring of the Mental Health Act
- Provide support to all functions within HIW on mental health clinical advice
- Take an active role in the management and clinical advice for the Second Opinion Appointed Doctor service
Post-specific tasks
- Together with the Head of Mental Health – Clinical Advice, contribute to the existing quality control reports/measures on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Work with all functions and branches to support them to embed quality measurement and assurance in their teams.
- Work with all functions and branches to support them with any matters requiring mental health and learning disabilities clinical advice.
- Support working relationships with stakeholders to ensure that HIW is present in all relevant spheres relating to mental health and learning disabilities.
- Support and assist in the learning and development of staff in the areas of mental health and learning disabilities.
- Compile information and assist in the production of the annual mental health and learning disability report.
- To ensure that HIW maintains and implements processes and procedures that meet best practice.
- To work with the Head of Mental Health – Clinical Advice to maintain relationships with the Welsh Government and other stakeholders on matters of mental health and learning disabilities.

Job specific criteria
- An understanding of healthcare inspection and regulation and knowledge of the health and social landscape in Wales.
- Experience of report writing
- Professional registration with a national body and extensive experience of working in a variety of mental health clinical and/or learning disability settings.
Development Opportunities
The post involves working alongside the Chief Executive, Deputy Directors and Head of Mental Health – Clinical Advice. Training is needed for some aspects of the role and will be provided.
