HIW climbs South Wales’ highest peak to support colleague with MND

On Thursday 22 June, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) climbed Pen y Fan in Bannau Brycheiniog (The Brecon Beacons) to raise money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord, and they help tell your muscles what to do. If you have MND, this means your movement will be affected and you are likely to get a wide range of symptoms such as muscle weakness, speech and communication problems, and difficulty swallowing.

In recent months, Pauline who works within HIW’s Intelligence Department made the difficult decision to leave work due to her condition expediting. A group of HIW staff of all varying walking abilities took to the mountains and ascended the 886m hike in support of Pauline and to fundraise for the MNDA.

If you would like to find out more about the MNDA, Pauline’s story, or to donate, please check out the related links.
