Director of Strategy and Engagement
Abubakar joined Healthcare Inspectorate Wales from Social Care Wales in May 2022. A key focus of Abubakar’s role is setting the strategic direction for the organisation, building reputation and ensuring that HIW’s work has the greatest visibility in order to support improvement in healthcare. He also provides leadership for the following functions - partnerships, intelligence, methodology and communications.
Abubakar has over 15 years of experience working in social care workforce development and regulation. He has a wealth of expertise in strategic planning, programme management and establishing effective corporate governance. Abubakar has held a number of non-executive positions including Director at Disability Wales and Trustee for a leading UK charity working to improve the lives of disabled children in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
