Local Supervising Authority (LSA)
Role of the LSA Team
The purpose of statutory supervision of midwives is to protect the public. Local Supervising Authorities (LSA), through Supervisors of Midwives, do this by ensuring that all midwives practise safely and effectively. The LSA Midwifery Officers for Wales (Julie Richards and Vinny Ness) works on behalf of the LSA to ensure a consensus approach to standards and policies. The LSAMOs represent the LSA and Wales perspective at UK wide forums and also have links with key stakeholders across Wales. The LSAMOs lead on audit of LSA standards, has a responsibility for first point of contact, provides advice and guidance and where necessary on behalf of the LSA, may suspend a midwife from practice and report them to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
