Publication of Special Review of the Outbreak of Clostridium Difficile at the former North Glamorgan NHS Trust

Special Review of the Outbreak of Clostridium Difficile at the former North Glamorgan NHS Trust (now part of Cwm Taf NHS Trust) between March and April 2008.

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) has today published its special review report on the former North Glamorgan NHS Trust (now part of Cwm Taf NHS Trust) following an outbreak of Clostridium difficile Ribotype 027 that occurred at the Trust in the Spring of 2008.

Between 1 March and 30 April 2008, 37 patients were affected by Clostridium difficile and sadly, three of these patients died as a direct result of the infection. In response to concerns raised about the outbreak, the Minister for Health and Social Services asked HIW to undertake a review of the arrangements to manage the outbreak within the Trust.
